About Hibiscus Coast Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren Inc.
Lorraine Brooke-Anderson, the founder of Hibiscus Coast Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren Inc. decided in 2000, together with a number of grandparents that had ended up parenting their grandchild, or in some cases great grandchildren to start this organisation.
Back then, there wasn’t really any support from government organisations like WINZ and CYFS for grandparents that made the difficult decision to take care of their grandchildren on a permanent basis.
Lorraine and others felt that there was a need to have a local organisation that would support the grandparents and also inform the wider community about the grandparents situation.
Over the years Lorraine spent a lot of time talking to not only government organisations but also to a wide range of local organisations about the Gran’s and their situation.
Thanks to Lorraine and others in the group we are now well known and respected in the community.

Lorraine retired from the group in 2014 and moved to Tauranga but before Lorraine left she handed over the Support Coordinator position to Sonia Cope. Sonia also accepted the positions of Secretary and Vice President. In July 2018, after 4 and a half years of solid dedication Sonia made the difficult but understandable decision to spend more time with her growing family and handed the reigns over to Donna Taylor. Sonia stayed in the organisation in a support capacity to Donna, to maintain the level of support we commit to our grandparents while the transition period was in place. At our annual AGM in September 2018, Donna officially become the Support Coordinator, Secretary and Vice President of the organisation and Sonia stepped away from the role. Donna has committed to providing the high level or wrap-around support that the role requires and is looking forward to giving the grandparents the care and commitment that they so very much deserve.
